Known for their company's strong culture, Netflix employees thrive in environments that foster innovation and creativity; they like their culture so much they wrote a book on it.

In across late 2023 to early 2024, Netflix sought workshops that would challenge their teams to navigate ambiguity, build alliances across regional teams, and sparked their interest with creative workshop design. I did three across 2 different disciplines of the company.

The involvement

I co-designed and co-led three workshops. Two for the wider Netflix PR team, one held on a boat for the internal DevOps team.

Embracing Ambiguity: We designed workshops that encouraged Netflix employees to develop strategies when there were too many work requests from their peers; practically considered how to build cross-regional synergies (I know, synergies, but this time it fits) challenge them to be a bit vulnerable with their co-workers.

Building Cross-Regional Alliances: Activities were included to foster collaboration and communication among Netflix's regional teams, promoting stronger working relationships and a sense of unity. The teams had never really met before and stood at the start of a period with much more interaction with each-other.

Innovative Concept: Netflix expects you to bring your A-game when it comes to workshop design, the team gave us creative freedom but were clear that they expected to be wowed. We took that challenge seriously: for one of the workshops we designed an integrated experience where participants would create personal artefacts to put in a 'PR goodie bag' that they would gift to a person they'd like to follow up with after their day was over. This surprise culmination tied the day together thematically and effectively integrated networking (normally a little awkward) as a core element of the program, rather than a tag on.
